Physics Colloquium in Neckers 440
Title: Atomically Thin Two Dimensional Materials
Speaker: Saikat Talapatra
Affiliation: Southern Illinois University--Carbondale
Abstract:
It is envisioned that the field of nanomaterials and nanotechnology will
go through a tremendous expansion and will hold immense potential for
providing advanced scientific and technological solutions that will
have significant societal impact. Achieving this will require renewed
synthesis and characterization efforts in order to have complete control
over material structure, properties, and arrangement. Keeping this as
the central theme, this talk will focus on our recent investigations
on understanding fundamental properties of atomically thin
two-dimensional (2D) materials. Specifically we will discuss
the electronic, and optoelectronic properties of
layered 2D materials and possible applications.
