Electronic Properties
of Materials - Measuring Band Structure
This is a very beautiful lecture. We start by considering the very early experimental observations on oscillations of conductance, resistance as well as magnetization of materials as applied magnetic field varies. Such observation was used to map the shape of the fermi surface of materials. We will describe this mathematically.
Most importantly, we will describe
- the Landau Level Quantization of electrons in a magnetic field.
We will extend this to describe the Quantum Hall Effect. This lecture connects lot of things we discussed earlier.
